83 Golfers in the first medal of 2012 at Dunes…… Dan Helgeson, Sophie Issa, Ron Gillespie, Ken Gibson and junior Stewart McLean take the honors…

In a windy, challenging day over the Lakes course at Katameya Dunes, an impressive 83 players competed in the first monthly medal of 2012. Talented young junior golfer, Stewart McLean got his season off to an impressive start with a commendable net 77 to take victory in the junior category.

Sophie Issa won the ladies category with a Net 77, with Suzie Blazer finishing 2 shots further back on 79.

The Mens Category was split into two categories, Division A for handicaps from 0-18 and Category B for handicaps from 19 and above. Without doubt, the round of the day came from Ron Gillespie, who managed the only sub par round of the day with an impressive Net 71 of his 19 handicap to take the Division B title. Runner Up went to Andrew Gill on 75, and Vernon De Yager took third with 78.

Division A was won by Ken Gibson with an steady round of 75 off his 14 handicap. Runner Up went to Lames Brown on 76 with Andy Bothwell taking third also on net 76, losing out on countback.

Runner UP Gross went to Brad Steer on 86m with Dan Helgeson taking the overall best gross prize in the first medal of 2012 with an 82.

The January Monthly Medal is part of the 2012 Order Of merit, points to be posted Saturday 28th January 2012.
